At-Tur
1
Par At-Tûr !
2
Et par un Livre écrit
3
sur un parchemin déployé !
4
Et par la Maison peuplée !
5
Et par la Voûte élevée !
6
Et par la Mer portée à ébullition ! (au Jour dernier)
7
25
Et ils se tourneront les uns vers les autres s’interrogeant ;
26
Ils diront : « Nous vivions au milieu des nôtres dans la crainte [d’Allah] ;
27
48
Et supporte patiemment la décision de ton Seigneur. Car en vérité, tu es sous Nos yeux. Et célèbre la gloire de ton Seigneur quand tu te lèves ;
49

1
Par la Montagne !
Note [édition originale] : La Montagne = le Sinaï.
    2
    par un écrit tracé
Note [édition originale] : Par un écrit tracé semble désigner ici l’Archétype céleste du Coran.

            32
Leurs songes leur ordonnent-ils cela ? Sont-ils un peuple rebelle ?
            33

            Facsimile Image Placeholder
            Diront-ils : « Il a forgé cela ». — Non ! [cela], ils ne [le] croient pas.
            34
Note [édition originale] : ḥîna taqûm « quand tu te lèves », c.-à-d.
On a alors 2 Prières + vigile.

Roast in it! And bear you patiently, or bear not patiently, equal it is to you; you are only being recompensed for that you were working.’
                17
Surely the godfearing shall be in gardens and bliss,
                18
rejoicing in that their Lord has given them; and their Lord shall guard them against the chastisement of Hell.
                19
‘Eat and drink, with wholesome appetite, for that you were working.
                20
Reclining upon couches ranged in rows; and We shall espouse them to wide-eyed houris.
                21
And those who believed, and their seed followed them in belief, We shall join their seed with them, and We shall not defraud them of aught of their work; every man shall be pledged for what he earned.

                24
and there go round them youths, their own, as if they were hidden pearls.
                25
They advance one upon another, asking each other questions.
                26
They say, ‘We were before among our people, ever going in fear,
                27
                and God was gracious to us, and guarded us against the chastisement of the burning wind;
                28
we were before ever calling upon Him; surely He is the All-benign, the All-compassionate.’
                29
Therefore remind! by thy Lord’s blessing thou art not a soothsayer neither possessed.
                30
Or do they say, ‘He is a poet for whom we await Fate’s uncertainty’?
                31
Say: ‘Await! I shall be awaiting with you.’
                32
Or do their intellects bid them do this? Or are they an insolent people?
                33
Or do they say, ‘He has invented it?’ Nay, but they do not believe.
                34
Then let them bring a discourse like it, if they speak truly.
                35
Or were they created out of nothing? Or are they the creators?
                36
Or did they create the heavens and earth? Nay, but they have not sure faith.
                37
Or are thy Lord’s treasuries in their keeping? Or are they the registrars?
                38
Or have they a ladder whereon they listen? Then let any of them that has listened bring a clear authority.
                39
Or has He daughters, and they sons?
                40
Or askest thou them for a wage, and so they are weighed down with debt?
                41
Or is the Unseen in their keeping, and so they are writing it down?
                42
Or desire they to outwit? The unbelievers, they are the outwitted.
                43
Or have they a god, other than God? Glory be to God, above that which they associate!
                44
Even if they saw lumps falling from heaven, they would say, ‘A massed cloud!’
                45
Then leave them, till they encounter their day wherein they shall be thunderstruck,
                46
the day when their guile shall avail them naught, and they shall not be helped.
                47
And there surely awaits the evildoers a chastisement beyond even that, but most of them know it not.
                48
And be thou patient under the judgment of thy Lord; surely thou art before Our eyes. And proclaim the praise of thy Lord when thou arisest,
                49
and proclaim the praise of thy Lord in the night, and at the declining of the stars."

                Revealed at Mecca
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
                1
                By the Mount,
                2
                And a Scripture inscribed"
                3
                On fine parchment unrolled,
                4
                And the House frequented,
                5
                And the roof exalted,
                6
                And the sea kept filled,
                7
                Lo! the doom of thy Lord will surely come to pass;
                8
There is none that can ward it off.
                9
On the day when the heaven will heave with (awful) heaving,
                10
And the mountains move away with (awful) movement,
                11
Then woe that day unto the deniers"
                12
                Who play in talk of grave matters;
                13
The day when they are thrust with a (disdainful) thrust, into the fire of hell"
                14
(And it is said unto them): This is the Fire which ye were wont to deny.
                15
Is this magic, or do ye not see?
                16
Endure the heat thereof, and whether ye are patient of it or impatient of it is all one for you. Ye are only being paid for what ye used to do.
                17
Lo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight,
                18
Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell-fire.
                19
(And it is said unto them): Eat and drink in health (as a reward) for what ye used to do,
                20
Reclining on ranged couches. And we wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes.
                21
And they who believe and whose seed follow them in faith, We cause their seed to join them (there), and We deprive them of nought of their (life’s) work. Every man is a pledge for that which he hath earned.
                22
And We provide them with fruit and meat such as they desire.
                23
There they pass from hand to hand a cup wherein is neither vanity nor cause of sin.
                24
And there go round, waiting on them menservants of their own, as they were hidden pearls.
                25
And some of them draw near unto others, questioning,
                26
                Saying: Lo! of old, when we were with our families, we were ever anxious;
                27
But Allah hath been gracious unto us and hath preserved us from the torment of the breath of Fire.
                28
Lo! we used to pray unto Him of old. Lo! He is the Benign, the Merciful.
                29
Therefor warn (men, O Muḥammad). By the grace of Allah thou art neither soothsayer nor madman.
                30
Or say they: (he is) a poet, (one) for whom we may expect the accident of time?
                31
Say (unto them): Except (your fill)! Lo! I am with you among the expectant.
                32
Do their minds command them to do this, or are they an outrageous folk?
                33
Or say they: He hath invented it? Nay, but they will not believe!
                34
Then let them produce speech the like thereof, if they are truthful.
                35
Or were they created out of naught? Or are they the creators?
                36
Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Nay, but they are sure of nothing!
                37
Or do they own the treasures of thy Lord? Or have they been given charge (thereof)?
                38
Or have they any stairway (unto heaven) by means of which they overhear (decrees). Then let their listener produce some warrant manifest!
                39
Or hath He daughters whereas ye have sons?
                40
Or askest thou (Muḥammad) a fee from them so that they are plunged in debt?
                41
Or possess they the Unseen so that they can write (it) down?
                42
Or seek they to ensnare (the messenger)? But those who disbelieve, they are the ensnared!
                43
Or have they any god beside Allah? Glorified be Allah from all that they ascribe as partner (unto Him)!
                44
And if they were to see a fragment of the heaven falling, they would say: A heap of clouds.
                45
Then let them be (O Muḥammad), till they meet their day, in which they will be thunder-stricken,
                46
A day in which their guile will naught avail them, nor will they be helped.
                47
And verily, for those who do wrong, there is a punishment beyond that. But most of them know not.
                48
So wait patiently (O Muḥammad) for thy Lord’s decree, for surely thou art in Our sight; and hymn the praise of thy Lord when thou uprisest,
                49
And in the night-time also hymn His praise, and at the setting of the stars.

Note [édition originale] : By the book, &c.] The book here intended, according to different opinions, is either the book or register wherein every man’s actions are recorded; or the preserved table containing God’s decrees; or the book of the law, which was written by God, Moses hearing the creaking of the pen; or else the Korân 1.

                6
                and by the swelling ocean:
                7
                verily the punishment of thy Lord will surely descend;
                8
there shall be none to withhold it.
                9
                On that day the heaven shall be shaken, and shall reel;
                10
and the mountains shall walk and pass away.
                11
                And on that day wo be unto those who accused God’s apostles of imposture;
                12
who amused themselves in wading in vain disputes!
                13
                On that day shall they be driven and thrust into the fire of hell;
                14
and it shall be said unto them, This is the fire which ye denied as a fiction.
                15
Is this a magic illusion? Or do ye not see?
                16
Enter the same to be scorched: whether ye bear your torments patiently, or impatiently, it will be equal unto you: ye shall surely receive the reward of that which ye have wrought.
                17
                But the pious shall dwell amidst gardens and pleasures;
                18
delighting themselves in what their Lord shall have given them: and their Lord shall deliver them from the pains of hell.
                19
And it shall be said unto them, Eat and drink with easy digestion; because of that which ye have wrought:
                20
leaning on couches disposed in order: and we will espouse them unto virgins having large black eyes.
                21
And unto those who believe, and whose offspring follow them in the faith, we will join their off-spring in paradise: and we will not diminish unto them ought of the merit of their works. (Every man is given in pledge for that which he shall have wrought

                  23
They shall present unto one another therein a cup of wine, wherein there shall be no vain discourse, nor any incitement unto wickedness.

                  28
for we called on him heretofore; and he is the beneficent, the merciful.
                  29
Wherefore do thou, O prophet, admonish thy people. Thou art not, by the grace of thy Lord, a soothsayer, or a madman.
                  30
Do they say, He is a poet; we wait, concerning him, some adverse turn of fortune?
                  31

Do they say, He hath forged the Koran ? Verily they believe not.
                  34
Let them produce a discourse like unto it, if they speak truth.

                    37
Are the stores of thy Lord in their hands? Are they the supreme dispensers of all things?
                    38
Have they a ladder whereby they may ascend to heaven, and hear the discourses of angels? Let one, therefore, who hath heard them, produce an evident proof thereof.

                      41
Are the secrets of futurity with them; and do they transcribe the same from the table of God’s degrees?
                      42

                        7

                        29
                        Воспомяни ты о проповедании алкорана, ты не благодарен ли еси милостию божескою ; ты неси диаволскии ;
                        30
                        32
                        ваши властители повелят ли вам глаголати о состоянии ; будут ли они упрямы в их преступлении ;
                        33
                        35
                        были ли они сотворены из какие ниесть вещи ; сотворили ли они какие ниесть вещи ; сотворили ли они сами себе ;
                        36
                        37
                        Имеют ли они возможности в сокровищах господа твоего ; суть ли они силнии исполини ;
                        38
                        40
                        будете ли вы у него просити какое нибудь благодеяние, да послушаете закон его : есть ли он вам должныи ;
                        41
                        42
                        хотят ли они вознегодовати противу тебе ;
                        43

                        43
                        43.  An est illis Deus aliquis præter Deum ?
                        44
                        44.  Quòd si viderent frustum è Cœlo decidens (idest aliquam partem Cœli cadere supra se ) dicerent : Hæc est nubes conglomerata, neque proptereà crederent.
                        45
                        45.  Relinque ergo eos, donec incidant in diem illam, in qua pereant.
                        46
                        48
                        48.  Sed patienter sustine judicium Domini tui circa eos  : tu sanè es in oculis nostris : & celebra laudem Domini tui, quandò manè consurgis.
                        49
                        49.  Et ex nocte (idest in parte, seu principio noctis ) lauda eum, & in postremitatibus stellarum (idest in occasu earum, circa Auroram ).
                        Note [édition originale] : NOTÆ.
Hæc item Sura, ut aliæ quædam à prima sui dictione titulum sortitur. Meccanam omnes faciunt. Versus novem supra quadraginta communiter in ea enumerantur. Qui legerit Suram, per Montem ; debitum erit Deo, ut securum reddat eum à pęna sua, & frui faciat illum in Paradiso suo.
                        I.  Per Montem. Jahias putat, intelligi Montes in genere. Vox autem طور
II.  Et Librum descriptum. ] Exponit Gelal : التوراة والقران Pentateuchum, vel Alcoranum. Jahias intelligit solum Alcoranum. Librum illum, in quo scribuntur opera hominum, proferendum in die Resurrectionis. Alii dicunt, esse librum, in quo Deus scripsit legem Moysi audiente ipso Moyse stridorem calami, quo Deus scribebat. Alii dicunt esse Tabulam custoditam : Alii Alcoranum. Sed hunc ultimum negat Zamchasc.
IV.  Et domum visitatam. ] De hac domo, ita Gelal : هو في السماء الثالثة او السادسة او السابعة بحيال الكعبة يزوره كل يوم سبعون الف ملك بالطواف والصلاة لا يعودون اليه ابدا Hæc est in tertio, vel sexto, vel septimo Cœlo è regione Templi Meccani, quam invisunt quotidie septuaginta millia Angelorum, circumeuntes eam, & orantes in illa : & nunquam redeunt ad eam ampliùs. Jahias limitat hunc reditum حتى تقوم الساعة ad diem Judicii.
                        V.  Et Tectum elevatum. A terra ad Cœlum est spatium viæ quingentorum annorum.
VI.
XX.  Accumbentes super lectulos in seriem dispositos. Deindè audiet dicentem sibi : Eus surge hinc, & transfer te in aliud Cænaculum, nam tecum temporis circulum expletura sum.
Propriè significat, incertum ævi, vel temporis diuturni.
XL.  At ipsi scribunt.
XLIV.  Frustum è Cœlo. ] Ad eos scilicet feriendos, ut explicat Gelal.
                          R
                          Note [édition originale] : REFUTATIONES.
Porrò tàm in veteri Testamento, quàm in novo, frequentia juramenti Divina authoritate damnatur. Quamobrem in Ecclesiastico cap.
II.
IV.
